The Maverick, is a brand new harmonica developed, produced, manufactured by the Buckeye Music LLC company.

A brief story of how it came to be...

Based on an experience back in 2010 at SPAH in Minneapolis, with a harmonica player who had modified his own Golden Melodies, he had milled out the sides and further opened up the rear end of it. The modification made that harmonica so much more forceful. It literally screamed - but in a good shreaking kind of way. So, with that modification in mind, we created a brand new design for a cover plate to apply to this model. This part of developement took some time, as the coverplate was difficult to get just right. But, we managed, and have exactly what we were looking for with it - A wide open back and a vent on each side, just like that modified Golden Melody.

Now, its true that the reed plates and the reeds are the exact same thing as what's inside our Soul's Voice, the reed plates on this particular beauty have been nickel plated. Also, the cover screws had to be relocated a little further forward due to the side vents of the covers.

Back to that Golden Melody though, everyone knows that the Golden Melody has a plastic comb, and we already make a plastic comb for the Soul's Voice. We wanted something different for this one though. Mainly out of curiousity, we looked into aluminum, brass, copper, and rosewood. Again, anything we went with would require yet another brand new mould. We ended up deciding in favour of the aluminum, but the curiousity still remains with the other materials. So I'm sure we'll delve into that down the road (maybe).

So here we are with our brand new moulds for our coverplates, reed plates, and comb. Still no name, or artwork to think of ..

Doc, the previous owner of the company, who many of you may know through SPAH and various harmonica related conventions came up with the name. The harmonica was created based on a whole bunch of firsts for us, and we thought it was kind of unique and out there. So.... the name Maverick seems to fit it just fine. The cover art was also designed in house by a gentalman named Lee Mora.

The Maverick uses phosphor bronze reeds in our harmonicas.

Why do we prefer phosphor bronze over brass?

Phosphor bronze (sometimes sold with the shorter name Phos Bronze) is an alloy of copper with 3.5 to 10% of tin and a significant phosphorus content of up to 1%. The phosphorus is added as deoxidizing agent during melting.

These alloys are notable for their toughness, strength, low coefficient of friction, and fine grain.

Over the past year and a half, and an extensive trial and error period, we've managed to put together a harmonica unique to itself!

The Maverick is now available in four major keys, so give this wild thing a try!
